Joe DePorter

Joe DePorter, 97, of Janesville passed away at his home Friday, June 14, 2013 in the presence of his loving family. He was born on July 1, 1915 at Ste. Rose Du Lac, Manitoba, Canada, the son of Camiel and Flavie (Vermeulen) DePorter. He married Catherine Schultz on June 19, 1943 at the Milton Methodist Church. They lived on the family farm in Lima Township until 1955 when they moved to Milton. In 1977, they moved to Janesville. Joe worked for 30+ years for the Rock County Highway Department. He also worked for Frank Brothers, Lipke Livestock Haulers and spent many enjoyable hours picking and selling apples for Sunnyview Orchard all in Milton.
Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jim Schauer of Janesville, three grandchildren, Kevin Schauer of Orlando, FL, Michelle (David) Shanks and Gregory (Beth) Schauer all of Janesville; great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Lauren Shanks and a third great-grandchild due in November, his faithful cat, Nikko, his brother, Gerald DePorter of Madison,  his sister-in-law, Beverly Schultz of Milton, a very special friend who always made time to visit, George Gorial of Orlando, FL as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine on March 18, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and George, four sisters, Mary Murray, Irma Mettler, Martha Kennison and Evonne DePorter.

Funeral services will be held at Milton Lawns Memorial  Park Chapel, 2200 Milton Avenue, Janesville at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 with Chaplain Jim Davis officiating. Visitation will be at the chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Assisting the family is Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
